Mid-Kansas Electric Company, Inc., is a member-owned, wholesale generation and transmission company that conducts its business using the cooperative business model. Mid-Kansas’ Members include five electric cooperatives and one wholly owned subsidiary of a rural electric cooperative, all serving in central and western Kansas. Mid-Kansas’ Members include Lane Scott Electric Cooperative, Dighton; Prairie Land Electric Cooperative, Norton; Southern Pioneer Electric Company, Ulysses; The Victory Electric Cooperative Association, Dodge City; Western Cooperative Electric Association, WaKeeney; and Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Scott City.
Mid-Kansas’ business association with these Members helps them power homes and businesses in 33 counties throughout central and western Kansas. Mid-Kansas began operating in 2007 and since then has increased its transmission and generation capabilities. Currently, Mid-Kansas has more than 1,250 miles of transmission line and a diverse 777-megawatt generation portfolio, which includes wind, coal, and natural gas resources. These assets play an important role in providing reliable service to the region. As a company based on the cooperative business model, Mid-Kansas has a democratically elected board of directors with a representative from each of its six Members. When making decisions, the Mid-Kansas Board keeps in mind the best interests of its members and the thousands of Kansans it serves. This approach has advanced Mid-Kansas’ mission of providing reliable, long-term power supply and transmission services to its Member-Owners and the people they serve, at the lowest possible cost consistent with sound business and cooperative principles.

Mid-Kansas consists of 476 megawatts of generation, 128 megawatts in power purchase agreements, and 1,250 miles of transmission line, assets that help our Members provide affordable, reliable generation to their Members in central and western Kansas.
