Craftsmen Industries Builds Two Mobile Command Center Trailers for Ameren
When major storms knock out power across a region, the people restoring service are spread across many sites at once. Keeping them connected is its own job. Ameren, through its AmerenUE utility, wanted a stronger way to coordinate field personnel and communicate during storm restoration, and it asked Craftsmen Industries to build the space where that coordination happens. Craftsmen Industries builds mobile command center trailers for Ameren. Craftsmen Industries designed and built two command center trailers for AmerenUE. The Ameren command trailers support storm restoration efforts. AmerenUE uses the trailers to coordinate with field personnel. Ameren serves electric and natural gas customers. The Challenge: Coordination When Storms Disrupt ServiceCraftsmen Industries built the Ameren trailers around storm restoration coordination. Utility teams need to stay connected with the crews restoring service when outages hit. AmerenUE wanted dedicated mobile workspaces that could support field personnel during restoration efforts rather than relying on a fixed office far from the work. The brief was clear and practical: - Create two mobile command center trailers
- Support coordination with field personnel
- Provide a workspace for storm restoration operations
Dedicated Work Areas Inside Each TrailerCraftsmen Industries fitted the Ameren trailers with individual workstations. Inside, Craftsmen built a continuous work counter divided into individual stations so each team member has a place to work. Task chairs, overhead cabinets and under-cabinet lighting turn the trailer interior into a practical office environment. - Partitioned workstations along the trailer interior
- Electrical outlets and connection points at desk level
- Built-in cabinets above the work surface
These details matter in a restoration setting, where staff may spend long shifts at the same position tracking crews and relaying information. A Shared Conference Space for Face-to-Face CoordinationCraftsmen Industries added a shared conference area to the Ameren command centers. Individual desks handle focused work, but restoration also requires people to meet and make decisions together. A separate conference area gives personnel a place to gather around one table, with a wall-mounted display and adjacent cabinetry completing the space. The combination supports both desk work and face-to-face coordination inside the same mobile command center. Balancing Two Ways of WorkingThe layout reflects how utility response actually operates: people working their own tasks, then coming together to align. Putting both in one trailer keeps the team in one place instead of splitting it across vehicles. A Recognizable Ameren Presence on the RoadCraftsmen Industries wrapped the Ameren trailers in full-color branded graphics. The enclosed semi-trailer carries the office and meeting spaces on a mobile platform. Its exterior features a full-color wrap with utility crews, the Ameren logo and the message "Help is on the way." For communities waiting on restoration, the trailer communicates what it is there to do as clearly as it supports the people inside. What the Ameren Project Shows About Mobile Command CentersCraftsmen Industries designs mobile command centers for utilities, emergency management and disaster response teams. The Ameren project translated a utility brief into two trailers built around communication with field personnel: individual work areas, a shared conference space and a branded exterior in one mobile setting. Craftsmen also builds command centers on trucks, vans and coaches, and has delivered command centers for Liberty Oil and Hy-Vee alongside Ameren. Each command center is quoted to its own specification because every mission is different. About Craftsmen IndustriesCraftsmen Industries has been a custom fabricator of mission-ready specialty vehicles since 1982. Its in-house teams design, engineer, fabricate and brand each build under one roof at a 127,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in St. Charles, Missouri, with more than 225 skilled craftspeople on staff. The facility holds AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality management certifications. For Ameren, Craftsmen Industries delivered two mobile command center trailers that give AmerenUE a dedicated base for coordinating storm restoration.
